In What Aspects Are The Four Versions Similar And Different?

In what aspects are the four versions similar and different?

Answer:

The origin of rice may have different versions but all version heavily relied to, if not helped by the gods and goddesses or an outside force that must have came from gods. These gods and goddesses showed mercy to the people. What makes them different is how these gods and goddesses helped in the situation.

Explanation:

Sappia, the goddess of mercy took pity on the people when they prayed and begged to give them food to eat. It was a rainless day and drought was all over the land. People are dying from hunger. Needless to say, it was a severe famine. Sappia pitied for them. Like a mother, she dropped a milk from her breast, in each barren weeds. Until such time, milk no longer came out from her breast because the barren weeds are abundant.

Out of her mercy, even blood are coming out from her breast just to help the people. After the last drop of her blood from her breast, she bent low and whispered to the barren weeds, "Oh plants, bear thou in abundance and feed my hungry people," and disappeared towards the heaven. So, the two varieties of rice today resembled the white rice as Sappias milk, while the brown variety represents her blood.

In Bohol version, people are only eating fruits, vegetables, and hunting as their means of survival. Tilling the soil, planting and raising poultry is unknown at that time. They were living in abundance and thankful to Bathala. During their hunting and harvest, they would equally divide the fruits of their labor among each families, thus, the term Balangay which represents the group of families was coined.

During one of their hunting for deers in the Cordillera Mountains, they encountered a group of people not similar to them. They were gods and goddesses, and holding a banquet. The people gave respect to them after realizing their existence. With that gesture, the gods and goddesses were glad and invited them in return. One of their meal was made of white kernel beads that was cooked from the bamboo, and another bamboo was a crystal-like water that happened to be a wine.

Another version was the story of the couple Banag and Danas who stayed near the sea together with their tribe.  When a devastating storm hit all their properties, the couple decided to reside on the mountains away from the other families. Realizing without food, he searched on the other mountains until he became weary. Tired and restless, he heard the song of the grasses, "We are the hope of the people, Danas. Gather our grains. Our grains are good food." Danas gathered the grasses and went home to tell Banag the food and the great news. The next morning, he returned to the field as the grasses are happily singing.
